When these parents of three give thanks today, the health of their infant daughter will be at the top of their list: “She is now doing amazing, and you would never guess she had such a rough start in life,” Mom said.
At the same time, she adds, “This year has been a tough year for our family.”
Last New Year’s Eve, after their daughter was born with persistent pulmonary hypertension at Cox South, she was immediately hooked up to a ventilator, then an oscillator, before being flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital when she was only a day old. Mom, Dad, her big brother and her big sister stayed in St. Louis for three weeks while she received treatments with a special oxygenation machine — and, Mom said, “Living in a hotel room with a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old was not easy.”
