Second Of Pelagic Trio For Atlantic Dawn Delivered

Skipper Denis Carbery and his crew brought the Salt-designed Lauren home to Killybegs after a delivery trip from the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey.

The company has already invested in the 25 metre Ella, designed to be able to alternate pelagic and whitefish operations, and completed locally by Mooney Boats, followed by Leila, the first of a trio of dedicated pelagic trawlers designed by Salt Ship Design. Lauren is the second of the three sister vessels, and the third, Veronica, is due to be completed before the end of this year.

Lauren measures 62.60 metres overall, with a moulded breadth of 14 metres and has a 1562.50 cubic metre carrying capacity in its RSW tanks, which are chilled by a double 800kW RSW system from MMC, who also supplied the water separator and the twin 4200 litre vacuum pump system.

The three new pelagic vessels are identical, and each is outfitted with a 2999kW MAN Diesel & Turbo 9L27/38 main engine driving a MAN VBS 1020/4-ODF controllable pitch propeller via a Scana Volda reduction gearbox.
