My Hero Academia: Endeavor's Redemption Arc Didn't Rely on Awkward Humor

My Hero Academia's storyline has, over time, introduced quite a few dramatic elements to make the anime more than just a superhero story about punching villains and showing off cool costumes like off-brand X-Men characters. The serious drama adds emotional weight to everything that happens, and it drives the character arcs of many heroes and villains alike such as Endeavor.

Notably, My Hero Academia is still a shonen anime, so it uses ample comic relief and relatable high school hijinks to ease the tension and make viewers happy. Even grief-stricken characters like Mirio Togata are part of that trend. However, some characters haven't yet "earned" the right to be funny, with Endeavor being the chief example. He's trying to atone and make everyone like him more, but dad jokes are not the solution, and My Hero Academia knows it.
