At the former Palais de Justice in Dakar, Chanel’s first showcase in Africa represented a monumental moment marking the first time a European luxury house has staged a show in sub-Saharan Africa. Creative Director Virginie Viard’s culturally-conscious collection meditates on the colonized past of France and Senegal, with a fusing of both cultures in the clothes to symbolize steps to an equal future between the two nations. The Métiers d’Art 2023 collection embodied the city’s spirit of classic heritage and creative innovation; an essence captured by both the clothing and beauty looks of the show.
