At the former Palais de Justice in Dakar, Chanel’s first showcase in Africa represented a monumental moment marking the first time a European luxury house has staged a show in sub-Saharan Africa. Creative Director Virginie Viard’s culturally-conscious collection meditates on the colonized past of France and Senegal, with a fusing of both cultures in the clothes to symbolize steps to an equal future between the two nations.
