Holding a smoke detector in his hands, Seymour Firefighter Andy Wolka asked students at Head Start in Seymour if they knew what it was.
He was happy to hear several of the young kids, ages 3 to 5, respond with the correct answer.
“Have you ever seen these in your house?” he asked.
Again, several responded with the answer he was looking for: “Yes.”
“When you go home tonight, ask your mom and dad or the adults you live with if you’ve got a smoke detector in your house and make sure it works,” Wolka said.
One kid said he knows to go outside his house to a fence if he hears the smoke detector beeping.
