Christine Tang is selling happiness in her new Kailua store, Aloha Kira.
Originally from California, Tang grew up in the San Francisco Bay area.
“As I was shopping for my baby nephews, I noticed a need in the market for soft organic kids’ clothing with fun, colorful graphics and illustrations,” she told Pacific Business News in an email.
In 2010, she started a children’s clothing line called Kira that she screen printed and sold at local events. Tang eventually began working with a Los Angeles factory to produce the collection, selling it to retailers across the country, including Barney’s New York.
“With my wholesale and pop-up event experiences, I decided to open my own brick-and-mortar retail store as an avenue to sell the Kira collection,” she said. “To fill the store, I would search the trade shows — that I was vending at — to find other brands and artists whose products I wanted to carry. This led to my love for retail buying, merchandising and working with artists from all over the world.”
